Devon’s view on Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu changed my life. When I first started BJJ in 2007, I was very languishing in my personal health. At that time I was a huge fan of the UFC, and I had wrestled in high school and done some kickboxing as well previously; BJJ seemed like a good fit in my life to get some much needed physical activity in. After my first intro class, I’ve never looked back. BJJ has played a large role in improving my overall health, quitting smoking, and shaping my career path of helping others reach their health and fitness goals. BJJ also gives me goals to achieve, physical fitness, and a great community to be a part of. I started teaching fundamentals classes in January 2012, which I have taught until present. I find it enjoyable and fulfilling to teach students techniques, and to see them progress over time.
My favourite memory of BJJ is IBJJF 2011 American Nationals tournament, in Los Angeles. It was fun competing at a tournament of that scale, while also soaking in high level matches involving BJJ legends, and taking in LA with good company.
