Learning the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is important because it provide the building blocks for more advanced techniques, making it easier to progress and achieve your goals in BJJ, at any age and skill level. By focusing on the fundamentals, of jiu-jitsu, you will develop proper technique and mechanics, which will make your movements more efficient and effective. It takes a lifetime to master the art of jiu-jitsu and the key fundamentals are crucial.
Our fundamental classes follow several well-established fundamental curriculums (Ribeiro, Draculino, Gracie Barra, etc.). The curriculum repeats itself in three-month cycles and can be joined anytime.
Classes start with a light warm up and a demonstration of several techniques. Then, we drill these techniques under the coaches’ supervision, finishing with some positional sparring or drilling of the learned techniques.
Once our students have demonstrated they understand the basic fundamentals and are getting closer to their blue belt, they will be invited to join the Advanced Jiu-Jitsu class lead by black and brown belt instructors. Students learning advanced techniques in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) as allow you to become a more well-rounded and versatile practitioner, increases competitiveness, challenges and improves on your skills.
Once the student has a strong understanding of the foundations they are invited to the advanced class. In the advanced class the foundation of fundaments are still practiced, while progressing to the more advanced areas of Jiu-Jitsu.
Techniques will focus on particular positions with lots of drilling and implementing important concepts.
Private coaching sessions in martial arts offer one-on-one attention from an experienced instructor. During these sessions, the instructor will work with the student to address specific goals and areas of improvement, such as technique, strength and conditioning, or strategy.
The personalized attention in a private session allows for a faster pace of learning and helps the student to reach their goals more quickly. Additionally, private sessions are often tailored to the individual's needs, so the instructor can focus on the student's specific strengths and weaknesses.

BJJ Black Belt Training
At Pacific Top Team Vernon, we are lucky to have many skilled and dedicated training partners, and a large group of students who have achieved a black belt in BJJ. In BJJ, black belts are ranked based on their level of experience, skill, and knowledge of the art.
Black Belt Training is offered to students who have mastered the fundamentals and are working towards their black belt.
